I am the Hicker Family Professor in Renewing Democratic Community at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Also, I am the author of Welfare for the Wealthy: Parties, Social Spending, and Inequality in the United States (Cambridge University Press 2015) and coauthor of The Other Side of the Coin: Public Opinion Toward Social Tax Expenditures (Russell Sage Foundation 2021). My research areas include public policy, political economy, and public opinion. I am broadly interested in examining the politics of income inequality.
